Got a Letter...

Noah's old doc sent me a letter about how I am behind on Tristan's shots. Included in the letter were the list of vaccines he's due for. I am pissed. Let's go over the list, shall we?

Pediarix - I am fine with this one. It's an all-in-one shot for diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), hepatitis B, and polio.

Hib - this is supposed to guard against some type of bacteria that can cause pneumonia and possibly menengitis. note: the spread of this infection can be wiped out in 2 to 4 days with antibiotics

Prevnar - is for pneumonia strains of bacteria.

IPV - is the Polio vaccine, which is covered with Pediarix... a little overboard I think

Rotavirus- all for this one, but I think Tristan is past the age where it would be fatal. It's severe diarrhea and vomiting which can lead to dehydration. I don't find it to be extremely necessary, but I will probably get it for him.

MMR - measles, mumps, rubella. Fine

Varicella - chicken pox vaccine. I think this vaccine will eventually allow the innocence of pox to mutate into something that actually does require vaccination

Hepatitis A and B - OK, fine.

Menactra - vaccine against menengitis, which is not an issue for infants so BLAH! the risk group is 15-24yr olds and it's a very rare disease

GARDASIL!!! - HELL NO! Vaccination against a couple strains of HPV which may cause cervical cancer. Note to doctors, my son doesn't have a cervix.

Flu - ok, but only because he's still so young.

Adacel - (taken from the site) Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis are serious diseases caused by bacteria. Adacel (Tdap) is used to help prevent these diseases in people 11 to 64 years old. Most people in this age group require only one Tdap shot for protection against these diseases. Note the age range and the repetition of diseases already covered by other listed vaccines. No thanks.

Dtap - diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis. So basically they want us to vaccinate against these rare diseases a total of 4 or 5 times. This is ridiculous.

In conclusion, I hate doctors. I hate that they are making money by shooting our kids up with vaccine upon vaccine in an extremely redundant manner. They can be annoyed with me all they want. I'm not the type of mom who will blindly trust anyone, especially when my children are involved and there's money to be made.

I always sit down & read & research about what shots my girls are getting. I like knowing what is going on too.

The one vaccine that effected Ember was the liquid Rotavirus.(Which feaked me out because it was a live virus put into her mouth like Tylenol....I was freaked out nursing her after that...haha,but they said it was fine!). She had horrible diarrhea though for a week and was so sick from it.(not bad enough to go to the hospital, but enough to make us both miserable!) But I think that was a rare case...still I was a bit upset from that.
