The Tricycle KING

We bought Noah a trike a loooong time ago and he just never caught on to the whole "pedaling" thing. He would scoot around using his feet, but refused to try to cycle. Randomly he's been using his pedals and yesterday he just "got" it. So today we took his trike around the block twice and he pedaled the entire time. I couldn't believe he lasted that long!! We have been taking walks after dinner every night. I find it helps us both sleep better... and digest better to help prevent pesky heartburn. Plus it's been so nice out it would be a crime not to enjoy it. The only drawback is that the mosquitoes and fleas are really bad right now. The fleas don't really bug us, but poor Jellybean somehow got them. I had to give her an emergency flea bath and change all her bedding today before they get out of control. I'm hoping that one flea bath worked because the shampoo aggravates my asthma really bad. Last year she was covered in them and it was like pulling teeth to try and get rid of them. Poor bean.

Starting this less computer time thing has been great. I've been sitting outside doing cryptograms or reading or doing sudoku and Noah's really content just having me out there to talk to and hug every once in awhile. Surprisingly the day goes by faster and I get less annoyed with Noah even though I am spending more time with him. Go figure... it's probably because he's not being as annoying because he's not competing for my attention!! hehe ;)

Since I spent today off the computer again we also went to the duck park. I love going there around lunch time because everyone else is eating or at school. I'm not looking forward to the crowds of summer. Especially at the zoo :P I love having the zoo all to myself. Then Noah can run all over the place and I don't have to worry about losing him. The duck park is great. There are several species of ducks and turtles and they're all in different stages of life. We saw moms sitting on nests, ducklings, goslings, eggs, adolescent ducks, baby turtles. Today I got really excited because there was a HUGE spiny softshell turtle. This is the first time I've seen him. It may be because they supposedly hibernate through April (if I'm looking at the proper species). They have these long snout looking noses instead of the boxy turtle head. I wasn't able to get a picture, but I did a little research and it seems like these aren't really too common in Texas. Maybe it was a released pet. I'm all into biology so this next portion is really for my own future reference. Here's my water wildlife of Heritage and Brackenridge Parks list:

Muscovy Duck
Black-Bellied Whistling Duck
Mallard Duck
Yellow-Crowned Night Heron
Cattle Egret
Texas Spiny Softshell Turtle
Red-Eared Slider (turtle)
African Goose
Chinese Goose
Pekin Duck

OMG it took me FOREVER to find that stupid Goose!!! ...maybe I'll add more later, it's almost time for Will & Grace! :D

Hurricane Sandy

This will be a gleefully uneventful post, but I thought I should at least inform everyone of our whereabouts during Frankenstorm. On Friday the landfall predictions were further south, which had the eye passing near our tiny town after obliterating Dover, DE.  We happen to be surrounded by water.  The Patuxent River on one side, Chesapeake Bay on the other, plenty of swamps and creeks in between.  Not a good prospect. Josh and I had gone out that night to try and secure supplies and already, there were no batteries or flashlights.  We also don't have a grill and thought "we'll try Lowe's tomorrow"I mean, most people already own grills... right?  Everything in our house is run on electricity (including the water pump for the well) except for the fireplace.  I don't know what builders are thinking when they do that.  I at least want a gas stove and water heater!  So, anyways.  We got a few hours of sleep before trying to brave the crowds...

Germany

Noah and I are having a great time out in Germany with Josh. The house we're sharing is amazing and the people are also amazing. The only thing we don't have is our own kitchen, but like I said, the people who live here (Josh's friends) are amazing so it's not even an issue. I've been cooking for everyone to try to thank them in some way. We haven't been to many places yet. It's hard to go anywhere with a baby who has a naptime and a husband who has a job. However!! We managed to make it out to Heidelberg to see the castle. It was awesome. the walk up to the castle mmmm castle Heidelberg down below Christmas is huge here. They've even got Christmas markets out in the parking lot in front of WalMart. We've been to Luisenplatz a few times in downtown Darmstadt to visit all the Christmas shops they have set up. It's like a Christmas flea market. Thus far all I've blown money on is candy... mmmm German candy is so delicious. It's...

Hiking on the Guadarrama Trail

As promised yesterday, I actually left the house and went on a hike with Mama C and Goober!  YAY! I was a bad Mommy and ill prepared to shield us from the hot Spanish sun so we all have a touch of sunburn.  Whoops.  It was fun though.  OK so here's where we began our journey.  You can see the bridge between the roundabout and the little house with a red roof (which is a restaurant).  All the cylindrical buildings were a plant nursery.  We walked over the bridge and past the nursery where we crossed the street and then started up the dirt path.  The other little building is literally a Gypsy Keep. Here's what it looked like from the road... and it was so ridiculously creepy, yet fascinating.  I don't know why there is always tons of junk in trees around gypsy places.  There was a gutted van in the backyard, a stroller jammed into a wall, shorts in the trees.  We both wanted to trespass, but the kids would have inevitably fal...
