After a million stops and an entire day in the car we finally arrived and Grandpa and Grandma B's house in Missouri. There was snow on the ground and it was pretty cold out. They had just had a huge ice storm so every tree looked like God came through on a rampage and stepped on them. The 22nd we just hung out and relaxed all day. I unpacked and repacked everything so that I'd feel better, got to do some laundry. Ahhhhhh :) Later that night Noah and Grandma made some cookies for Santa and placed them on the hearth. He also put some reindeer food out. Noah was excited about Santa coming!
Somehow I forgot to get a picture with Tristan in it too. I'm pretty angry at myself. We also didn't get a group shot. I must have been more stressed over the trip and all the house stuff than I thought. Anyway... "Christmas" morning came and Noah was SOOOOO excited about all his presents. Josh went out and got him this craftsman tool set from Lowe's the night before and it's still his favorite gift. He wore the toolbelt while he opened gifts. I'm sure that tomorrow when all our stuff gets delivered his bike will end up taking over the #1 spot. We were dressed all cute in our red and white stripes :)
After all the commotion and excitement dwindled down a bit we drove out to see the new house G&G B. are building. I love their floorplan and they have a big lake in the back of their property. It's going to be a great house.
We also went to see a great tourist attraction! Since the area highways are part of the old Route 66 it's no wonder this is where some inspiration for "Cars" was found. This is the actual truck that inspired the Tow Mater character. I tried to get a picture with Noah sitting on Mater, but he was tired by this time and just would NOT sit still. He was also obsessed with making snowballs with his bare hands and then crying about his hands being cold. Sigh.
We all had a great visit and felt very comfortable the whole time we were there. I'm glad we got to visit. We got a good night's sleep and then headed off to Kansas to see Grandma and Grandpa N. the morning of the 23rd.
I got a horrible phone call early this morning from someone I used to work with. A friend of mine, who was stationed in Iraq, was killed yesterday in her sleep when her trailer was hit. SGT Trista Moretti was an amazing person. She had an impact on so many lives in so many places. It's going to be tough for everyone (like me) who can't make it to Jersey to say goodbye. I've been crying off and on all damn day. It seems so unfair. I hate this war and don't agree with it, but I don't think she died in vain. She died for everyone else out there. They fight for each other, not a cause, not their government. That's what I miss about the Army. I miss my comrades. Trista was hilarious and beautiful and had this great Jersey accent. We used to play word games and gossip and eat lunch together every day. We would laugh all day long while we "worked" haha. I remember when she first got to the unit I told everyone some bitchy chick with an accent was in the...
As promised yesterday, I actually left the house and went on a hike with Mama C and Goober! YAY! I was a bad Mommy and ill prepared to shield us from the hot Spanish sun so we all have a touch of sunburn. Whoops. It was fun though. OK so here's where we began our journey. You can see the bridge between the roundabout and the little house with a red roof (which is a restaurant). All the cylindrical buildings were a plant nursery. We walked over the bridge and past the nursery where we crossed the street and then started up the dirt path. The other little building is literally a Gypsy Keep. Here's what it looked like from the road... and it was so ridiculously creepy, yet fascinating. I don't know why there is always tons of junk in trees around gypsy places. There was a gutted van in the backyard, a stroller jammed into a wall, shorts in the trees. We both wanted to trespass, but the kids would have inevitably fal...
Noah and I are having a great time out in Germany with Josh. The house we're sharing is amazing and the people are also amazing. The only thing we don't have is our own kitchen, but like I said, the people who live here (Josh's friends) are amazing so it's not even an issue. I've been cooking for everyone to try to thank them in some way. We haven't been to many places yet. It's hard to go anywhere with a baby who has a naptime and a husband who has a job. However!! We managed to make it out to Heidelberg to see the castle. It was awesome. the walk up to the castle mmmm castle Heidelberg down below Christmas is huge here. They've even got Christmas markets out in the parking lot in front of WalMart. We've been to Luisenplatz a few times in downtown Darmstadt to visit all the Christmas shops they have set up. It's like a Christmas flea market. Thus far all I've blown money on is candy... mmmm German candy is so delicious. It's...
