Off to the Swamp Again

Well today was a nice day and I was feeling pretty energetic so I took the boys back out to the Phinizy Swamp. Noah needed the exercise... ok ok mostly I did. After the storms we had this week it was a little muddy on some of the trails. I told Noah to stay near the edge by the grass and he took that as his personal invitation to walk through the grass, of course. Tristan just went with the flow, as usual. He just was quiet most of the time, taking it all in. We ended up turning around to take the high road, which resulted in a pretty great time.

We were high and dry most of our walk. There were a few puddles here and there, but mostly we stuck to the paved trails. Noah got a kick out of all the dried footprints and the cracks in the mud. He kept looking down and telling me all about the tracks in the mud. He also couldn't help but break them apart. We walked along a new part of the swamp we hadn't seen . It was more "swampy" than the last time we went. I think we were walking near all the man-made pools last time. The trees in a swamp are so cool.

Noah eventually had to go to the bathroom so I escorted him on over. I had some fun with reflections :) Noah was dancing under the hand dryer (it was automatic). He thought it was hilarious when it blew on his hair and down his neck. Who would have thought a bathroom could be so much fun haha :)

We went back out into the wilderness and ran into a few passers-by. This nice man from Michigan told us there were some interesting critters over by the other bridge so we headed on over. He showed up not too long after and showed us where some snakes were sunning and little bass were getting ready to nest. While we were watching the snakes I spotted a muskrat in the water. At first I thought it was an otter, but after I looked again it was obviously just a huge gross rodent :P YAY SWAMP hahaha. Noah thought it was the most amazing thing ever to look across the water and see where we had been walking earlier.

Josh called us while we were out and told us he had an earlier soccer game and asked if we wanted to go. OF COURSE! So we went home and got ready to leave, yet again. Tristan had a great time, but was exhausted and hungry by the time we were done. He was so adorable in his little hat today.

How fun! I love the "huge gross rodent", it's sooo cute! I like the picture f your & Tristans reflection in the bathroom too. He looks so adorable just hangin there like that,hehe. Noah is too funny playing with the hand dryer. Ava would do the same thing! Sounds like a great time....I am jealous still that you are actually outside and we are stuck in our living room as usual!! Ahhhh....pretty soon we be outside playing in our very own back yard and going to parks every other day again!Oooohhh, I can't wait!

oooh, so thats a muskrat! Sorry i go through pics first then read. I am kinda a kid like that. Pictures yay!

Hiking on the Guadarrama Trail

As promised yesterday, I actually left the house and went on a hike with Mama C and Goober!  YAY! I was a bad Mommy and ill prepared to shield us from the hot Spanish sun so we all have a touch of sunburn.  Whoops.  It was fun though.  OK so here's where we began our journey.  You can see the bridge between the roundabout and the little house with a red roof (which is a restaurant).  All the cylindrical buildings were a plant nursery.  We walked over the bridge and past the nursery where we crossed the street and then started up the dirt path.  The other little building is literally a Gypsy Keep. Germany

Noah and I are having a great time out in Germany with Josh. The house we're sharing is amazing and the people are also amazing. The only thing we don't have is our own kitchen, but like I said, the people who live here (Josh's friends) are amazing so it's not even an issue. I've been cooking for everyone to try to thank them in some way. We haven't been to many places yet. It's hard to go anywhere with a baby who has a naptime and a husband who has a job. However!! We managed to make it out to Heidelberg to see the castle. It was awesome. the walk up to the castle mmmm castle Heidelberg down below Christmas is huge here. They've even got Christmas markets out in the parking lot in front of WalMart. We've been to Luisenplatz a few times in downtown Darmstadt to visit all the Christmas shops they have set up. It's like a Christmas flea market. Thus far all I've blown money on is candy... mmmm German candy is so delicious. It's...

Hurricane Sandy

This will be a gleefully uneventful post, but I thought I should at least inform everyone of our whereabouts during Frankenstorm. On Friday the landfall predictions were further south, which had the eye passing near our tiny town after obliterating Dover, DE.  We happen to be surrounded by water.  The Patuxent River on one side, Chesapeake Bay on the other, plenty of swamps and creeks in between.  Not a good prospect. Josh and I had gone out that night to try and secure supplies and already, there were no batteries or flashlights.  We also don't have a grill and thought "we'll try Lowe's tomorrow"I mean, most people already own grills... right?  Everything in our house is run on electricity (including the water pump for the well) except for the fireplace.  I don't know what builders are thinking when they do that.  I at least want a gas stove and water heater!  So, anyways.  We got a few hours of sleep before trying to brave the crowds...
